Bioinformatics is about harnessing the power of computers to advance knowledge in the biological and biomedical sciences. This programme will meet the rapidly growing demand for biologists with programming and data analytics skills. Students will graduate with competencies in biological data acquisition, management, analysis, and interpretation.
No prior programming or data analytics training is required. Flexibility provided by the online and evening delivery of the programme content will enable those in full time employment to complete the course.
The programme focuses on developing computer programming competencies in students with no prior background in computer science. These learnings are enriched with extensive applied bioinformatics training using real world data to ensure that graduates are workplace ready. In addition, the programme will equip graduates with the necessary foundational knowledge and programming know-how to keep pace with the rapidly evolving disciplines of bioinformatics and computational biology.
Certain semesters of this course are taken in common with other courses.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Applicants require a 2.2 Honours Degree in a relevant medical or life sciences subject (e.g., Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Bioanalytical Science, Nutrition, Biochemistry) or in a discipline with a significant element of Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science.
