Student Health Service

Medical ServicesWelcome to the ATU Donegal Student Health Service webpage. Based on two campuses, one in Letterkenny and one in Killybegs, we offer a full general practice service free to all registered students with an emphasis on health promotion.

We are a team of doctors and nurses with a special interest in student health and are available to cater for the medical needs of students while they are away from home. We are not a replacement for your family doctor but are happy to work with them and any specialist consultant you may be attending.

All information provided by the doctor or nurse is confidential and is not disclosed to any other person, without the permission of the student concerned. All records are kept on a separate network to the main system and are not shared.

Location: The Student Health Service is located 1st floor of An Dánlann building on the Letterkenny campus and on the ground floor of the main building on the Killybegs campus.

Making an appointment

An appointment system is in operation, but emergencies will always be catered for. You can make the most of the service by arriving on time for your appointment or contacting the service to cancel if you are unable to attend.

To make an appointment on the Letterkenny campus:
Tel 074 91 86855 and one of our nurses will call you back to deal with your query and book an appointment with the doctor at one of our medical clinics on-site if necessary. You may also contact our service via email: health.donegal@atu.ie but please remember that email is the property of the University and is therefore not confidential. There is no doctor available on the Letterkenny campus on Fridays, however urgent/emergency GP appointments can be arranged through the Nurse at the Doctor’s main surgery.

To make an appointment on the Killybegs campus:
Tel 074 9186670 or 087 1369194 and one of our nurses will call you back to deal with your query. The nurse is available from 9:30am to 1pm Monday to Friday. If a doctor’s consultation is necessary, the nurse can arrange an appointment with the local GP, Dr. Bourke, at Killybegs Health Centre. Appointments are available between 9am to 1pm and 3:30pm to 6pm, Monday to Friday. If you have a medical card or GP visit card, either will be accepted. If not, you must show your current ATU student card to the receptionist and your visit will be paid by the college.

Note: The Student Health Service is not intended to replace your own GP, however, if you have any long-term illness which requires regular monitoring or medication, please register with the health service as soon as possible.
