Atlantic Technological University (ATU) have partnered with LinkedIn Learning, an online library with over 18,000 courses delivered in seven languages, to suit the training needs of staff and students.

All staff and students at ATU have full, free, unlimited access to on-demand training on any device anytime by logging on using the unique activation link and Single Sign-on (SSO) using their ATU email and ATU password.

The course topics range from leadership, engineering, and business management to Excel & beyond. The resources comprise high-quality video learning resources plus downloadable exercises and workbooks.

Mary Nolan, a lecturer in Mechatronics, used LinkedIn Learning for theoretical aspects of her teaching.

"LinkedIn Learning has given me the opportunity to spend more time with students on other aspects of the course teaching, such as work preparation and presentation skills. It also exposes the student to LinkedIn learning as a resource which can be embedded in their lifelong learning approach.”

For Patrina McCarthy, a clerical officer in Research, LinkedIn Learning was beneficial in understanding the Microsoft package better, such as Excel, Word, Power Point, Team and other applications. She said: “Learning quick wins and shortcuts within these packages allowed me the opportunity to be more productive in completing my everyday tasks”.

As for Patrick McDonald, an assistant staff officer, it is the variety of courses and modules that LinkedIn Learning provides.

LinkedIn Learning has greatly benefited me in terms of growth and understanding in my professional career. The variety of courses and modules has allowed me to sharpen skills already obtained, like advanced Excel and Word courses”.

Upon completion of a course, users can choose to add the certificate and new skills to their Linkedin profile; however, having a profile isn't mandatory to use the Linkedin Learning platform.

The Linkedin Learning platform was initially rolled out at ATU Sligo in 2020 for all staff and a year later for all students and was trialled for six months at ATU Donegal.
