National Tour Guiding

During my time at LYIT, Killybegs Campus while undertaking the Certificate in National Tour Guiding, I met a wide variety of people from across the region and from various tourism related backgrounds who brought their knowledge and expertise to the course. This provided a useful and mutually beneficial network. The practical experience gained during the programme opened my eyes to the wealth of attractions and valuable tourism resources which are available in this area while learning about the operational issues of becoming a tourist guide. This programme developed my knowledge and skills in this area and gave me the confidence to set up my own local tours knowing that I was professionally trained to a high standard, where classroom-based teaching was first rate, well structured and relevant to the course. On completion of the course I was eligible to apply for the Regional and National Guide Badge and I am now a Fáilte Ireland approved guide.

Harvey’s Point Hotel have always had a great rapport with LYIT, its placement students and their graduates. Over the years we have offered work placement opportunities to numerous students from LYIT and found these students to be hard working, committed and interested in all aspects of the hospitality industry. We feel that graduates from LYIT have already had an introduction to the business world outside the classroom, thus bringing their own experience and knowledge to the hotel. We would have no hesitation in recommending recruiting LYIT graduates to other employers.
