I personally was attracted to this course to get a broad foundation in big data analytics, and to learn how to apply machine learning and other techniques to my interest in security analysis. LYIT's MSc in Big Data Analytics covers a wide range of practical applied engineering and analytical skills. Skills such as: analytics, machine learning, big data architecture, mathematics, Python, R, as well as a spectrum of current infrastructure technologies at the core of big data ecosystems. I learned not just theory, but practice as well. Practical application in project-based exercises showed me how to apply what I was learning.

I enjoy big data security analytics, uncovering hidden patterns in security event data, and engineering supporting countermeasure responses in depth. Anomaly Detection was my ‘big data security analytics’ gateway topic. From there I began to investigate various big data security challenges: development of baselines, anomaly detection, machine-learning based malware pattern detection, and user behaviour analytics.

The course is a challenge, but a worthwhile one. Whatever your data interests, the skills you learn here are just the beginning. What do you need to do to build a data driven career?
