Information for:
Ciara is a mature student of Business who decided to take on an extra qualification in Engineering. Ciara has always had an interest in Physics and Mathematics but hadn’t considered studying Engineering until having a discussion with Anne Boner, Head of the Civil Engineering and Construction Department here in Letterkenny IT. Having weighed up her options Ciara decided Physics Fundamentals and Renewable Energy was an available part-time course that she found interesting and wanted to study further.
Ciara continues:"This certificate gives me the opportunity to sample elements of an Engineering degree while completing my degree in Business. This course raises the awareness of the key issues in energy systems and introduces you to the major concerns rising from environmental effects and depletion of carbon-based energy sources”.
Covid-19 has had a huge impact on everyone’s life. I’m a part time shop assistant and have been working throughout the pandemic while studying for two qualifications. It has been tiring and time management has been challenging but a great skill to develop. With everything shut and social interaction limited I thought now would be the perfect time to get another qualification under my belt. I encourage anyone who may have other commitments to consider exploring their options with LYITs courses
I am working full time for Donegal County Council as a Building Supervisor in the Facilities Management Section. I found the Certificate in Renewable Energy and Physics Fundamentals very interesting and quite relevant to the area of work I am doing for the council. The Physics 1 Module was delivered at a reasonable pace and with sufficient resources available via lectures and practical laboratory experiments. This learning teed up the Renewable Energy Module quite nicely. Covid – 19 came along in the middle of the second semester. This meant that we went from a classroom setting to an online learning setting via Blackboard Collaborative Ultra. I must commend the lecturer for his perseverance and availability to deliver the remainder of this module on line through the Blackboard medium. He was always available to offer help and advice. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and am encouraged to continue my studies at LYIT.
