*‘Free' Fee Students
- 'Free' fee students who register and officially withdraw before 1 November are liable for payment of 15% of the Student Contribution Charge. LYIT will not claim tuition fees from the HEA (Higher Education Authority) for students who withdraw before this date. Therefore, a student may then qualify for ‘free’ fees if they subsequently register in any Irish third level institution in a future academic year.
- 'Free' fee students who register and officially withdraw between 1 November and 31 January inclusive are liable for payment of half the Student Contribution Charge. Furthermore, where a student withdraws after the first HEA census date (October 31st), LYIT will have claimed half of the tuition fee related to that student from the HEA. As a consequence, should the student return to re-register in any Irish HEI within the next 5 years, they will be regarded as repeating a half year period. They will therefore be liable for half of the relevant tuition fee in the year of entry.
- 'Free' fee students who register and officially withdraw after 31 January are liable for full payment of the Student Contribution Charge. Furthermore, where a student withdraws after the second HEA census date (January 31st), LYIT will have claimed the full annual tuition fee related to that student from the HEA. As a consequence, should the student return to re-register in any Irish HEI within the next 5 years, they will be regarded as repeating a year. They will therefore be liable for the relevant tuition fee in the year of entry.
