LYIT is now accepting applications for its second intake of the Master of Science in Therapeutic Interventions for Alcohol & Other Drugs
LYIT is launching a second offering of its hugely successful Master of Science in Therapeutic Interventions for Alcohol & Other Drugs. This course is offered in both full- and part-time mode and its objective is to equip students with the ability to effectively address drug and alcohol issues using proven recovery methods; blending a strong academic grounding in theoretical knowledge and practical everyday skills.
Key features of the programme include the fact that the participants come from diverse professional backgrounds which enhances the examples and learning within the classroom. It also provides an opportunity to enhance the participants knowledge base, employment and career prospects whatever their specialist field. This programme plays a key role in empowering a workforce to respond to and provide systemic alcohol and other drug interventions within a four-tier model of treatment and care.
This programme is the first of its kind in Ireland. Speaking about the programme, Dr Louise McBride, Head of Department in Nursing and Health Studies mentioned, “This has been an exciting trajectory for the Department of Nursing and Health Studies to partner with the Alcohol Forum in delivering this MSc programme. The blend of academic and specialist expertise and inputs ensures a contemporary and evidence based framework for delivery towards achieving the overarching programme aim and objectives. We are delighted also to be shortlisted for 'best academic partnership' in this year’s Education Awards 2018, which is a further testament to the curriculum that was developed by the team involved".
Commenting on the programme, Kieran Doherty, CEO of Alcohol Forum, said the charity is delighted to partner LYIT in developing and delivering this Masters programme. “This MSc is a natural next step for the Alcohol Forum. It provides an opportunity for students to develop the knowledge and expertise to become leaders in responding to alcohol and other drugs in their services and communities”.
The application deadline for the programme is 1 June 2018. The Nursing and Midwifery Planning & Development Unit, as well as offering tax relief on fees paid, funds nursing and midwifery students through a devolved budget allocation to the Centres of Nursing & Midwifery Education in both Donegal and Sligo. The application deadline for this funding is the end of May.
It is also important to mention that LYIT also offers a Master of Science in Advancing Health & Social Care, which also caters for people in the health service.
