News, Student News, Staff News / Saturday 12 November 2022

Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Donegal Open Day takes place on-campus on Thursday 17 November from 9.30am to 2pm. In 2018, ATU Donegal introduced several programmes in health science disciplines which have gone from strength to strength since their introduction. These programmes provide students with an opportunity to progress into honours degree programmes in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Dietetics.

Niamh Moohan is a second-year student in the Higher Certificate in Health Science with Physiotherapy Studies at ATU Donegal. Niamh secured her place on the programme in September 2021 and since starting ATU Donegal, she has embraced all aspects of student life. Niamh completed her Leaving Certificate in the Abbey Vocational School and is a keen athlete, she even secured a pre-entry scholarship for athletics from ATU Donegal in advance of joining the university.

Niamh always had an interest in anatomy and physiology and when she reviewed the health science programme at ATU Donegal, she was really impressed with the course content and also, the progression opportunity available with Coventry University, which was unique to ATU Donegal.

Niamh commented, “I always wanted to study Physiotherapy but I didn’t want to leave home right away. I felt I wasn’t ready to make that leap. When I saw that ATU Donegal had developed new programmes in the health science disciplines, I was beyond excited as it gave me an opportunity to study the course I wanted locally. I joined ATU Donegal in September 2021, I quickly became a student ambassador and also, began competing for ATU in Athletics. I have had the most incredible time here at ATU, I really enjoy my programme and also, enjoy all aspects of student life. I am now a senior student ambassador and I am really involved in the Open Day activities. I know what it’s like to be that Leaving Certificate student making choices, and I would highly recommend students to attend the Open Day if you need help making your degree choices.”

Niamh is encouraging prospective students to attend ATU Donegal’s upcoming Open Day, she added, “My advice is go to the Open Day. It really helped me to decide my course of study.”

At the event, students can connect with current ATU Donegal students to find out more about student life on-campus.
