What’s New in Sport @ATU Donegal – CAO Spotlight

The Department of Tourism and Sport at ATU Donegal has been delivering exciting and innovative programmes in sport for nearly two decades. The department currently offers a suite of part-time, full-time and postgraduate programmes in sport and attracts students from all over Ireland and abroad.  

The department recently introduced two new CAO programmes for September 2022 entry. These programmes are now available to choose on the CAO ‘Change of Mind’ platform. 

  • BSc (Hons) in Athletic Therapy & Exercise Rehabilitation (CAO Code: LY338) 

  • BSc in Sports & Exercise (CAO Code: LY347) 

These programmes have been developed to meet the growing need for highly qualified sports professionals in the sports industry. 

 

BSc (Hons) in Athletic Therapy & Exercise Rehabilitation – CAO Code: LY338 

The new level 8, four-year honours degree in Athletic Therapy and Exercise Rehabilitation is a programme that equips learners with the knowledge and clinical skills to successfully diagnose, manage, and treat injuries in high-performance athletes, recreational exercisers, and the general public. Sport and exercise are critical for health and performance and there is high demand for graduates with the ability to deliver rehabilitation at all levels of sport and physical activity. The programme provides training in contemporary diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. 
 
The first two years of the honours degree provide the core foundation of the degree, including anatomy, physiology, and musculoskeletal assessment while the last two years develop clinical skills through student-led clinics, a work placement, and a clinical research project. BSc in Sports & Exercise – CAO Code: LY347 

This exciting new three-level 7 bachelor degree replaces the previous level 6 Higher Certificate in Sports Studies. The three-year degree programme intends to provide students with a strong foundation in the discipline areas of performance, health and well-being. Topics such as coaching, sports and exercise nutrition, leadership and technology are undertaken in this programme. The modules are taught in a practical nature and students will benefit from this recognised qualification in the discipline of sport. 
 
This programme intends to prepare students for the world of work in the area of sport. In the final year of the programme students get to complete a work placement, which provides students with good exposure into the career path in which the graduate wishes to pursue.
