LYIT is delighted to bring their campuses to homes across the island of Ireland and further afield for what is set to be their most interactive Virtual Open Evening to date!

LYIT was awarded a high rank in the Institute of Technology of the Year Awards 2021 and was named as runner-up in the Sunday Times Good University Guide.  With almost 5,000 students and two vibrant campuses, it fosters one of the most progressive learning environments in Ireland and welcomes students from 31 countries across the globe.

The event which will take place on Thursday, 6 May, 3 – 7 pm, will be broadcast live across the Institute's Facebook and YouTube channels.  LYIT currently has 54 CAO programmes in areas such as business studies, law and humanities, design and creative media, sport, computing, civil engineering, mechanical and electronic engineering, nursing, health studies, tourism, early childcare studies and science.  The live broadcast will include interviews with LYIT’s ten departments which will provide information on the suite of programmes.

Dr Nigel Mc Kelvey, Head of Flexible and Lifelong Learning, will be talking about the range of postgraduate and flexible learning offerings.  Students' Union President Elect, Adam O’Flaherty, will talk about student life and accommodation, while Rory McMorrow, Student Services Manager, will be providing information about ‘Student Support Services’ available at LYIT.

The Open Evening platform on LYIT’s website will also have a ‘Live Chat’ facility, where you can ask questions directly to academic and support staff.  This facility will be open from 3 – 7 pm, if you have a question - ‘Just Ask’.

President Paul Hannigan says: "I understand that the past year has been difficult for many.  This is our way of welcoming you to our campuses virtually.  The next step in your educational journey should be an exciting one and I encourage anyone who is thinking of studying to visit this event.  We have a great community here at LYIT and this event demonstrates that the support will be there for you until we can welcome you at our campuses in Letterkenny and Killybegs in the near future.  During the event we will hear from current students who will be sharing their experiences of studying at LYIT.  The students will be coming to you live from campus where you can hear about their programme of study and student life at LYIT."

Fiona Kelly, Schools Engagement Officer, talks about the upcoming event: "This event is suitable for everyone, whether you are a Leaving Certificate student, mature student, parent, guardian, guidance counsellor or someone who is interested in finding out more about LYIT.  It will be broadcast live from our campuses and we are excited to showcase all the excellent facilities within the college.  This event will provide you with all the information that you need regarding programmes, grants, applications, student support services, accommodation and much more."

The event will be live from 3 pm on Thursday 6 May.  It's open to everyone and registration is available here.

LYIT looks forward to welcoming you at this event.
