LYIT launches its third offering of its hugely successful Master of Arts in Learning and Teaching

Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) is launching its third offering of its hugely successful Master of Arts in Learning and Teaching.

The Head of Department of Law and Humanities at LYIT, Siobhan Cullen, said teaching remains one of the most rewarding yet demanding professions: “Tailor-made Masters programmes are crucial in supporting learning and teaching practices for the ever evolving 21st century classroom.  The work-based learning approach allows educators to apply their knowledge and skills in the classroom.  The School of Business at LYIT has a proven track record of over 16 years in executive and professional education at Masters level for practitioners in their field”.

Key features of the programme are: its focus on developing professional practice in learning and teaching; leading national and international best practice speakers; blended learning delivery; work-based learning in all modules; block delivery over 2 academic years at weekends; no exams (assessment is assignment based); and unique learning and networking opportunities across all educational sectors- 3rd level, further education, post primary and primary.

Anne McHugh, Chief Executive of Donegal ETB, strongly endorses professional development within the teaching profession: “This programme allows teachers to up skill without having to travel long distances.  It feeds directly into many of the key areas of interest of Donegal ETB, in terms of our wish to continue to improve the quality of teaching and learning in our schools and centres.  I recommend this programme wholeheartedly”.

LYIT is inviting applications from primary, post primary and 3rd level educators to take part in the 2018 MA in Learning and Teaching (MALT) programme which commences in February 2018.  Contact Siobhan Cullen at siobhan.cullen@lyit.ie or Lisa Devlin, Course Administrator, at 074 9186206 for further information.  Closing date for applications is Friday, 19 January.  A small number of places remain available.
