BSc Veterinary Nursing Aims of each placement:
Placement 1:
▪ Introduction to the Veterinary practice setting and the role of the Veterinary Nurse.
Placement 2:
▪ Development of competency in fundamental Veterinary Nurusing skills.
▪ Familirisation with Health and Safety within the Veterinary practice environment.
Placement 3:
▪ Introduction to hospital accommodation management skills. Practice with the Health and Safety policy.
Placement 4:
▪ Facilitation of the application and integration of theory learnt to date with current practice in the Veterinary practice setting.
▪ Exposure to Veterinary practice setting to continue to develop confidence and competence in relation to practice.
Placement 5:
▪ Aid students to become safe, caring, competent decision-makers within the Veterinary practice setting.
▪ Development of skills in the promotion of Animal Health and Welfare.
Placement 6:
▪ Continuous development and consolidation of management skills and fundamental skills of Veterinary Nursing.
All 6 placements are of 6 weeks duration. Placement1: 6 weeks in semester 1

HC in Science (Primary Technician) Aims of each placement:
Placement 1:
▪ Familiarisation with the pharmacy workplace environment and routine pharmacy procedures.
Placement 2:
▪ Respond to symptoms and practice interpersonal communication skills with patients and healthcare professionals.
Placement 3:
▪ Familiarisation with routine paperwork and administration of a pharmacy (stock management, extemporaneous preparation, and sourcing of non-routine medicines).
Placement 4:
▪ Introduction to the pharmacy environment, prescription types and schemes, and the pharmacy computer software.
All 4 placements are of 6 weeks duration. Placement1: 6 weeks in semester 1

HC in Science (Dental Nursing) Aims of each placement:
Placement 1:
▪ Provide a period of exposure to practice to develop and consolidate dental nursing in the HSE, NHS and private dental settings.
Placement 2:
▪ Build on work placement 1 to develop student's practical skills to prepare a petient for x-ray and their role as a dental nurse.
Placement 3:
▪ Builds on placements 1 and 2 to develop students' practical ability to provide chairside support to the operator and patient during complex dental procedures.
Placement 4:
▪ Builds on other three work placements to develop the student's practical ability to provide chairside support to the operator and patient during complex dental procedures.
▪ Develops the student's rapport with patients and facilitates the student to become a safe and competent decision-maker within the remit of a dental nurse.
All 4 placements are of 6 weeks duration. Placement1: 6 weeks in semester 1

Placement 1:
▪ Introduction to the theoretical evidence based frameworks for care and associated nursing skills related to the provision of safe care.
Placement 2:
▪ Introduction to professional practice in a variety of clinical settings.
▪ Aims to provide students with the opportunity to participate in the delivery of person-centred care and develop fundamental clinical skills at beginner level of competence under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.
Placement 3:
▪ Develop the student's journey towards professional practice within a variety of clinical settings.
▪ Aims to provide students with the opportunity to participate in the delivery of person-centred care and develop fundamental clinical skills at beginner level of competence under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.
Placement 4:
▪ Aims to advance the students' knowledge of caring for individual patients/clients, throughout the lifespan, in a variety of practice settings. ▪ Allows students to begin to attain problem-solving and critical thinking skills drawing on knowledge, skills, attitudes and experience already accrued.
▪ Aims to provide students with opportunities for personal and professional development and to further explore and develop a personal philosophy to create their own identities as members of the professional health care team.
Placement 5:
▪ Aims to promote continued development of theoretical knowledge and clinical skills at competent level and facilitate the student to manage delivery of person-centered care effectively in a safe, caring and competent manner whilst taking personal and professional accountability for own actions.
Placement 6: ▪ Aims to promote consolidation of students' theoretical knowledge and clinical competency in preparation for successful transition for eligibility to register as a qualified nurse.
▪ Focuses on the continuous development of knowledge, values, meaning and experience at proficient level; to integrate skills of analysis, theoretical knowledge. problem-solving, clinical decision-making, and reflexivity into everyday clinical nursing practice.

Placement 1:
▪ Enable the student to integrate theory with practice and to develop positive attitudes and values towards working with children and their families in an early years setting.
Placement 2:
▪ Provide the student with experience within an early years setting so that he/she continues to develop confidence and competence when applying theoretical concepts and principles to the practice of Early Years Care and Education.
Placement 3:
▪ Examine the links between the acquisition and use of skills and knowledge.
▪ Promote reflection and discussion about how theories of child development inform practice and how challenges faced in educational and care settings call for further theoretical and research enquiry.

▪ Students are expected to achieve professional standards in relation to their stage of training as defined by statutory oversight agencies and as detailed in the relevant assessment schedule.

▪ Opportunity in a health & social care setting to assist students in their goal for employment or postgraduate study.
