- This MSc/PgDip in Advancing Health and Social Care aims to provide people working in the areas of Nursing, Health and Social Care and Early Childhood Care or indviduals who aspire to work in these environments, with the concepts, theories & academic skills of relevance to their work.
- The course has been developed to advance knowledge and develop advanced research and leadership and management skills in semester one. In semesters 2 and 3 mandatory modules including Behaviours of Concern, Legislative and Ethics Issues and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness will be delivered which would be applicable to people working in health and social care settings. Additionally, in semester 3 students can choose an elective module which will enhance their current career or which could assist them in aspiring to a new career. These elective modules include Teaching and Learning, eHealth, Sustainable Healthcare or Creativity in Relation to Therapeutic Settings. The modules developed will allow students to critically explore, assess, evaluate and enhance their area of professional expertise and interest. The final module, Research Dissertation, will allow students to complete research in a topic of relevance to their area of work.
- Minimum Entry Requirements
- The minimum entry requirements are a Level 8 Honours Degree in a relevant discipline such as Health & Social Care, Nursing, Early Childhood Care, Social Work, Youth Work etc. Applicants may be required to undertake an interview. RPL will be considered in accordance with the Quality Assurance of LYIT.

- This course is suitable for progression for professionals working in the provision and delivery of an ever-changing health and social care agenda. Graduates from this course will have acquired the skills to be involved in leading out on change within their organisation. It will allow them to extend and progress the knowledge and skills that they already have acquired in their career/ studies. Students who successfully complete the MSc programme will be able to progress to a PhD in a range of third-level institutions.
- Cost
- The programme commences in September and the fee for the Master of Science in Advancing Health & Social Care is currently €5,000. The fee for Non-EU students is €9,000. Tax relief is available on fees paid – up to €5,000 at the standard rate.
