The Higher Certificate in IT Support provided me with the starting point I needed to return to education. I particularly enjoyed the six months work placement which gave me the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience before returning to the classroom for the final six months. As an option we were given the opportunity to gain an extra Cisco CCNA qualification.

I enjoyed my time in the Higher Certificate immensely and I decided to complete the BSc in IT Support. Being a mature student with other responsibilities I found the staff extremely helpful approachable and very knowledgeable. They were always willing and able to provide any assistance I needed throughout the course. The course gave me a strong, practical foundation in all aspects of IT and the placement period gave me a great insight into the realities of industry. The teaching atmosphere at LYIT is much more informal than other colleges and class sizes are smaller and more conducive to student input and exchange of views.

Returning to education has opened up a lot of doors for me. I am currently completing a Research Masters on Game Theory through NUI, Galway.

I never thought that I would enjoy the Higher Certificate and the BSc in IT Support courses so much. By the end of my third year at LYIT, I felt as though it was my second home. The support provided by all staff at the college was second to none and positive throughout.

As a mature student, not having attended College or University in my earlier life, I found the subjects both stimulating and exciting.  I also having had the chance at doing work placement at LYIT, it allowed me to see the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. The advice and suggestions made by lecturers were a direct reason why I was able to obtain a position in a local and progressive software development company only a short time after my results came through.
