LYIT School of Engineering, hosted the transnational partner meeting on Thursday, 28 February as part of the Erasmus KA2 funded Engineering Mathematics On-line Model Project (EngiMath). Representatives from Universities and Polytechnics in Portugal, Spain, Estonia, Romania and Poland visited LYIT to consider issues of teaching mathematics, shared teaching and assessment methods for engineering students.

The meeting was an intensive round of discussions exploring the delivery of mathematics at Universities within Europe, and the cultural and national differences in the curricula for engineering mathematics. Ken Brown, Lecturer in Engineering at LYIT, explains this partnership will apply lessons learned from a collaborative needs analysis in the development of an on-line course based on selected core mathematics topics. Ken outlines “Students will be invited to participate in an interactive, technology mediated, mathematics programme as part of a competition leading to a final in Portugal. The objective of the mathematics competition is to give engineering students the opportunity to work with other EU students in a meaningful way. The partnership is also researching the pedagogical modelling of engineering mathematics in the digital age to enhance the engagement of students.”
This project re-imagines the learning spaces within engineering for the enrichment of the educational experience. We look forward to seeing the output from the competition.
