ATU Donegal Students Excel at ‘Engineering Expo 2022’

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Donegal was delighted to return to an on-campus and in-person ‘Engineering EXPO’ event on Thursday 26 May. Students from first to fourth year, displayed their machine builds and projects from the academic year to employers including Terex, Phillips Medisize, Abbotts, Arolco and Hyundai.

There were a high number of attendees on campus for the event, with people travelling from across the region to participate in this showcase event. The event provides students with a chance to celebrate their success and to display their engineering projects from the academic year.

Fourth year students delivered their ‘research project findings’; third year students demonstrated their ‘design projects’; second year students displayed their ‘motion conversion mechanisms and autonomous robots’, and first year students profiled their ‘assistive devices’.

Guest speaker at this year’s ‘Engineering Expo’ was ATU Donegal Graduate, Mark Gormley, who is now the Senior Manager in Cool Planet. Mark delivered a speech that highlighted the drive of his company’s pursuit to decarbonise the platform of choice for global brands. He also highlighted the vast engineering employment opportunities that lie in the energy sector for graduates hoping to pursue an engineering career in this sector.

Representation from industry at this event is open to company of all sizes, from across Ireland and the North West region. This event is recognised and endorsed by Engineers Ireland, and has been used as a platform for many engineering companies to recruit ATU Donegal graduates.
