Students encouraged to avail of COVID-19 vaccination clinic on campus this week
The aim of Vaccination Week is to enhance and promote COVID-19 vaccination uptake among young people as they start or go back to college this month and to ensure any students, who have not been vaccinated yet, including international students, have the option to be protected.
No appointment is necessary - the COVID-19 vaccine clinic on campus this week is open on Tuesday and Wednesday (10 am to 6 pm) and Thursday (12 to 8 pm).
Louise Hunter is a fourth-year nursing student at LYIT and a vaccinator, and is encouraging students to come forward for a vaccine: "I would recommend getting the COVID-19 vaccine to all students. It reduces your chances of being infected and potential long-term complications of COVID-19. It also contributes to community protection, helping keep yourself, your family and your peers safe too.”
“Students who are vaccinated are less likely to miss out on college and other activities, helping us get back to a more normal way of life.”
Frank Harburn, Saolta General Manager for the rollout of the regional vaccination programme in the West and North West, welcomed students to the campus and said: “Young people, including third level students have shown remarkable responsibility and resilience during the pandemic and I want to thank them for every effort and every sacrifice they have made to help bring the Covid-19 virus under control.”
“Vaccine uptake among the younger population is very high and this is having a positive impact on the rate of community infection across the region. But as restrictions are easing and on-campus life returns to normal we are asking any student who has not yet been vaccinated, or who needs a second dose, to come forward.”

What to bring?
If you have already registered online, please bring a photo ID with you. ID can include one of the following: passport, driver’s licence, Garda age card, student/school ID, etc, but if your ID doesn't include your date of birth, please bring proof of your DOB (eg, your Birth Cert).
If you are not registered online, we will have to register you at the vaccination centre. Please bring the following with you:
- Personal Public Service (PPS) number, if you have one
- Eircode
- Mobile phone number
- Email address
- Photo Identification (passport, driver’s licence, Garda age card, student/ school ID, etc). If your ID does not have your date of birth, please bring a copy of your birth cert or some other documentation that has your DOB on it.
What vaccine will you be offered?
The Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is the vaccine being offered at the vaccination centres.
Second dose
If coming for a second dose bring your vaccine record card.
