Free upskilling and reskilling courses for unemployed and homemakers, and 90% funded for employed

LYIT is delighted to receive the news that 487 Springboard+ course places have been afforded to the Institute across various different disciplines.  Springboard+ provides free higher education courses in areas of identified skills needs to unemployed people, those previously self-employed, and those returning to work.  Even those who are in employment can now avail of the Springboard+ initiative.  For employed participants, Level 6 courses are free, whilst participants on Level 7 – 9 courses are required to contribute just 10% of the fee and the government will fund the remainder.

The courses approved at LYIT range from Certificate to Postgraduate Diplomas.  They include disciplines such as: Mainframe Technologies; conversion courses into Computing; Cloud Technologies; Artificial Intelligence; DevOps; Cybersecurity; Data Centre Management; Applied Data Technologies; Contemporary Software Development; Emerging Information Technology; Culinary Skills; Social Media & Web Marketing for Tourism; Management & Leadership; FinTech; Electric Vehicle Technology; and Revit & 4D BIM.

Speaking about the Springboard+ initiative, John Andy Bonar, Head of Development at LYIT, says:  "LYIT is pleased to have been involved in delivering high quality Springboard+ programmes for 10 years and during that time hundreds of students have successfully completed these very valuable upskilling and reskilling programmes.  Springboard+ programmes are specifically designed to meet identified skills shortages and emerging technologies and graduates of the programmes are highly sought after by employers.  As the Irish economy and society emerges from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and economic activity returns, graduates of these programmes will be ideally placed for rewarding careers.  We would therefore strongly encourage everyone to consider the attractive range of flexibly delivered Springboard+ programmes available at LYIT."

LYIT's Springboard+ flexibly delivered programmes have been specially designed in association with regional employers to reflect skills and qualifications currently in demand in the North West region and nationally.  This welcomed development also signals LYIT's continuing support for creating lifelong learning opportunities for the community across the North West region.

Dr Nigel McKelvey, Head of Online and Flexible Learning at LYIT, says:  "This is an excellent opportunity for people to reskill or upskill in an area of interest to them.  The flexibility of the programme delivery modes means that people can study and plan around their busy home and work lives.  Demand is always very high for these programmes, so applicants should apply early and make sure they are submitting all the required supporting documentation with their application forms so that they can be processed quickly."
