‘Confined yet Unrestricted’

The Department of Creative and Design at LYIT are delighted to announce that their 2021 end-of-year fashion showcase will be coming to audiences virtually.

Fashion students within the Department showcase their designs at the end of their fourth academic year.  With Covid-19 constraints, students and lecturers within the Department have been working endlessly to re-imagine this year’s event and bring it to homes and businesses both across the Island of Ireland and the globe.

The event entitled ‘Confined yet Unrestricted’ will be live on LYIT’s website and social media channels at 7.30 pm on Thursday, 3 June.  It will celebrate the hard work, dedication and skills of LYIT’s fashion students.  The designers will be showcased with the assistance of professional models and this year’s event will use dance, lighting and theatrical movement to convey the impact of Covid-19.

The event is supported by the Local Enterprise Board (LEO), the Department of Design & Creative Media at LYIT, and the students themselves who organised a GoFundMe Walkathon campaign.

Talking about the event, Sharon Maxwell, Fashion Lecturer says, “We could have chosen to not plan a showcase, but by its very definition, fashion is about focusing on new ideas and celebrating innovative design so that’s what we set out to do, even though an event is not expected at this time.  I believe that now, more than ever, we want to do everything possible to showcase the resilience, success and creativity of our graduating designers.  It would be such a shame for others not to have the opportunity to connect with the students' work”.

The event will be followed by a virtual exhibition for all of the disciplines from the Department of Design & Creative Media on Friday, 4 June.  Click here to find out more about the showcase and virtual exhibition.
