LYIT is delighted to be in a position to help our students by lending laptops in the coming academic year

LYIT is delighted to be in a position to help our students by lending laptops in the coming academic year. This scheme is part of the package of Covid-19 supports for higher and further education institutions approved by Government on 22 July 2020. The Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science has allocated €10 million of capital funding for a Once-off Covid-19 Grant to support disadvantaged students in the higher education sector in accessing ICT devices (the ‘Grant’).  This will be in the form of a grant from the HEA to eligible Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).

This initiative reflects concerns regarding the digital divide in the context of the shift to online and blended models of learning, which were identified by a range of stakeholders in the context of the Covid-19 structures put in place to coordinate responses among the further and higher education sectors.

LYIT understands that having an ICT device during this Covid times is extremely important to students. We also know that connectivity and the related costs are a burden for students. Thus, funding is also available through the Students' Assistance Fund  to help with these costs.

The application form for the Laptop Loan Scheme is available by clicking here.   The application form must be emailed to thecurve@lyit.ie

Note that students in receipt of the SUSI grant/social welfare payments and who are from the national access target groups will be prioritised.
