The hospitality sector is a key component of the Irish economy worth up to €7.6bn and employing 180,000 people. In addition, according to a report prepared by the Department of Business, Enterprise & Innovation, travel & tourism is one of the world's largest economic sectors, supporting one in 10 jobs (330 million) worldwide and generating over 10 per cent of world GDP. In 2019, the sector’s growth outpaced the global economy growth for the ninth successive year.
Guests may not see much of the “back-of-house” areas of a hotel, but the functions these areas serve are critical in full-service hotels. The rooms division must clean and support guestrooms; the front office and administration staff must extend hospitality to guests and keep reservation and operational processes running smoothly. The industry-focus of this programme is taught through a range of practical and academic learning styles to maximise the learning experience. The combination of key business subjects – such as management and sustainability ensures that graduates are well equipped for a successful career in the sector.
