Quantity Surveying

I recently graduated with a BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying degree from LYIT. Upon graduation, I had the opportunity of job offers in Dublin and London. I decided to take the plunge and move to London to start my career in an Irish based construction firm.

The course content from LYIT has stood to me vastly and I believe the lecturers deserve a lot of credit for the time and effort they give to each of their students. They continuously look for ways to improve the Quantity Surveying course and listen to feedback from students. The course offers work experience in the third year. This offers the student an opportunity when they graduate to return to that company. Modules which covered cash flow projections, calculations of payments due to contractors and procurement advice; to name only a few, has helped me whilst being in the work environment on a day to day basis.

The Quantity Surveying course is accredited in the LYIT by the Society of Chartered Surveyors (SCSI) and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) which has allowed me to continue my studies to gain chartership and complete my APCs in the UK. I am grateful for the support I encountered in LYIT and would highly recommend this course. The course itself is intense, but do keep in mind that all modules that are covered by the lecturing staff are needed when you enter the work environment - it is worth it in the end!

KCS Construction Consultants are an Independent Construction Consultancy Practice specialising in Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Project Monitoring and Due Diligence Services. We are based in Letterkenny and Belfast and service many sectors of the construction industry throughout Ireland and the UK.

Since the practice was established in 2011, we have consistently employed graduates and placement year students from the Quantity Surveying course at LYIT and currently have former LYIT QS students at various levels within our firm from Placement year to Senior Surveyors. We have enjoyed great experience with employing the LYIT QS graduates and have found them to be well skilled and enthusiastic about their chosen field.
