What is Live@Edu?
Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) are delighted to announce the launch of a brand new communication system in partnership with Microsoft called Live@Edu.  This new system will bring many new features and services to your student experience at LYIT.

This new platform provides students with Microsoft Office Web Applications that include web-optimized versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote. These essential applications are now accessible to LYIT students for free from anywhere at any time through a web browser or mobile device.  Live@Edu also includes Microsoft Outlook for your student e-mail. Student email storage capacity is now 10GB, including online storage repository with 25GB called a SkyDrive for storing and sharing documents.


How do I log into Outlook Live@Edu?
To login into the Live@Edu visit www.lyit.ie/studentmail
To login into the Live@Edu services  you will need:

  • Your Institute email address (studentID@student.lyit.ie)
  • Your Live@Edu password issued by the Computer Services Department.


Can I change my Password?
No, passwords are standardised across all student systems within the Institute including Live@Edu.
If you want to change your password, please contact Computer Services Helpdesk.


What is my email address?
Your Outlook live email address for new and returning students from 12th September will be:
studentID@student.lyit.ie  e.g  L999999@student.lyit.ie



What about my previous emails?
Returning students, all emails up to the 8th of September will be migrated from your existing LYIT mailbox to Live@Edu. Please note that your personal contacts will not be migrated.


What are limits on my Outlook Live@edu account?
Student email storage capacity is now 10GB, including online storage repository with 25GB called a SkyDrive for storing and sharing documents.

What is SkyDrive?
Sky Drive is an optional free web storage space provided by Microsoft with your student Live@edu account, accessible once logged in. Please note that you must agree to Microsoft’s term and conditions to use the SkyDrive. SkyDrive does not replace your standard College network drive (X Drive).


What policies or terms and conditions apply to the use of Live@edu?
Students using the Live@edu are subject to Institute’s policy and procedures, code of conduct and acceptable usage policies.
LYIT’s Computer Services department is not responsible for backup services provided by Microsoft Live@edu.
Students should be aware they will be required to accept Microsoft’s terms and conditions and privacy policy before using other Microsoft Windows Live tools such as Skydrive, Microsoft Apps, Windows Live Photos, Messenger, etc.


What Live@edu Services supported by LYIT?
The core service provided by Live@edu for LYIT is Outlook Live email. Outlook live is hosted by Microsoft; administered and supported by the LYIT Computer Services department as the official email services for LYIT students.

Apart from Microsoft Outlook Live, Microsoft also makes other optional services available to students under their Live@edu account. These services include: SkyDrive, Office Web Apps, Messenger, and Windows Live Photo. Please note that these optional services will not be supported by LYIT, however, help and support resources is available at windowslivehelp.com
