The Institute is an affiliated member of CUSAI (Council of University Sports Administrators in Ireland) and has participated in World Student Games in Beijing (2001), Daegu (2003) and Istanbul (2005).  Both students and staff members have been selected as part of these delegations and been involved in the preparation and selection of teams.

Sports Scholarship

On an individual basis some students in full time studies received sports scholarships from the institute.  The most recent presentations were made in February 2010.  The scholarships, which are awarded to individuals deemed to have achieved or have the potential to achieve sporting recognition, are considered by a group within the institute. It is important for applicants intending to apply for a Sports Scholarship to be aware that they must, first of all, be a registered full-time student of the Institute, and complete the required application form as soon as this form becomes available in semester 2 of the academic calendar. Existing second level students should not apply until they have registered and attended the Institute for at least one full semester. The selection panel take into account each applicant’s sporting participation, the applicant’s loyalty to the institute team with which they are associated and finally, an acceptable academic record of achievement in their study programme.  The Institute hope to develop the range of sports scholarships in the coming years.  As part of the marketing of the Scholarships programme in sport this year, the Student Services Department in the institute issued a press release and information packs to the second level schools from which all 11 of the successful sports scholarships recipients had studied, prior to registering in the institute.  In each case, both the School Principal and the Guidance Counsellor in the second level school were circulated with the information on the success of their past student.  The initiative was seen as a positive drive towards other students still undecided in their future academic path, in the hope that the possibility of additional funding from the Sports Scholarship programme at this institute might prove to be a defining point in selection of a third level college option.

The sports facilities & the recreation programme (events & classes) are managed by the Sports Centre staff team. Sports clubs & scholarship programme are managed by the Sports Officer & Student Services Officer A number of sports clubs exist within the Institute including -
