“Tour de Donegal” LYIT Charity Cycle is a big success
Annual LYIT Charity Cycle raises impressive €5k
The annual Campus to Campus Charity Cycle from Killybegs to Letterkenny took place on a sunny Saturday recently and continues to raise much needed funds for local charities. This year it attracted the largest number of entrants ever, when over 150 people got on their bikes and cycled from Killybegs through Glenties and Baile na Finne, finishing in Letterkenny. The 75km isn’t easy, with lots of hills and a strong wind on Meenaroy the cyclists were pushed to the limit. So hats off to all who completed it. A group of intrepid LYIT maintenance staff cycled the round trip from Letterkenny to Killybegs and back again to Letterkenny. Bradley Wiggins watch out!
Now in its fifth year, the LYIT Charity cycle has raised €33,460 in total (for local charities primarily). The €5,015 raised this year will be equally shared between Multiple Sclerosis Society (Donegal Branch) and Blood Bike North West (a voluntary group of motorbike enthusiasts who transport necessary medical items for HSE).
The organisers were delighted with the turnout, and paid special thanks to their sponsors and all those who assisted on the day.
Photos from the cycle are available on the Campus to Campus Charity Cycle Facebook page.
