LYIT Computer Camp shows Donegal students what’s on offer

Secondary students got a chance to familiarise themselves with all things technical and computer-based

‎‎Secondary students (pictured) from all over Donegal took part in a specially organised ‘computer camp’ at Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) in early June.  Whilst the main focus was to familiarise students with all things technical and computer-based, there was also many problem solving and Computing Camp_Summer 2013team-building activities to make the sessions engaging and enjoyable.  Run by lecturing staff at LYIT, over the 4 days students got a chance to learn and practice developing web pages, working with devices, creating games and even writing their own programmes. Donegal secondary school students got a real taste for the various types of roles in this growing industry.

Lecturer and Coordinator of the Summer Camp, Martina Quinn, was “delighted” with the response and the flair that students had for the subject, she said, “We had huge participation from Donegal schools and students immersed themselves in the practical tasks. I think we managed to show that computing is an exciting multi-disciplinary field. I would like to thank my colleagues Maeve Carr (programming), Evelyn Keown (web design), and John Conaghan (games development) in helping to make the camp a very positive experience for everyone.”

The programme was funded by the HEA (Higher Education Authority).
