LYIT Graduate Design Exhibition
Come along and view the work of our Design graduates
Welcome to the 2013 Graduate Design Exhibition. The exhibition this year features the work of our final year students from Visual Communication, Graphic Design, Digital Media, Product Design and Motion Graphics.
We would like to congratulate all our graduating students on this wonderful exhibition and wish them all the best in their future careers.
This year, our exhibition is bigger than ever, spread out over 2 floors. Take the time to explore Visual Communication and Product Design in the first floor studio where you can view projects such as motion graphics idents for 4seven - Channel 4's new to air channel, a campaign to encourage loyalty amongst Reading & Leeds music festival goers, a website for Donegal Culture/Cultúr Dhún na nGall, and a graphic identity for a new range of Batiste products.
Product Design graduates were asked to identify a design opportunity and develop a proposal to address the associated design challenges; their responses included a system to hygienically clean kitchen knives, a carrycase for portable hard-drives and a public seating proposal.
The top floor showcases the work of the Graphic Design and Digital Media students. Here the Graphic Design students took part in the annual ISTD (International Society of Typographic Designers) competition. Their task was to utilize existing content and genres to develop an editorial design project that considers how we read in the 21st century. They also had to support their solution with a range of pre-launch promotional items. Words and language were their collateral, therefore, solutions had to be essentially typographic.
Digital Media students were given a choice of local, national and international briefs and asked to respond with either an interactive multimedia, motion graphics or audio-visual solution. Project briefs ranged from self promotion, to short films to motion branding. Others developed music videos for local musicians or campaign-based websites tied into social media.
The MA in Motion Graphics students are still in full production mode as the final submission isn’t until the end of August but their showreels and projects are also displayed on the first floor. The MA students have been working on self-directed briefs in areas as diverse as pop music videos, interactive tourism and visual design for video games on handheld devices.
