LYIT Research Showcase

A broad spectrum of topics

Research ShowcaseLYIT held a Research Showcase in early March to profile the interesting and topical studies which are currently underway at the college.  Speakers from other institutes and from WiSAR added new insights on the day.  Students Conor McTiernan, Joe Coll, Aine Doherty, Gary Cullen and Catriona MacCallum presented their work.

In total there are 5 projects from tourism, design, engineering and business.  Each explored some very relevant questions such as, “The Role of Trust Innovation Systems,” “Identifying Creative Ways to Stimulate Dialogue between Industry and Education,” “Mobile Marketing in Business, “Extending the Indoor Location Based Systems using Mobiles” and “Behaviour in Health Sector Evacuations.”

Dr Jim Morrison and Dr Nick Timmons gave an overview of WiSAR’s current research programme within the School of Engineering, and Dr Catherine Lynch and Carla Harkin presented on the ChiBio project within the School of Science.

Paul Hannigan, President LYIT, who delivered the opening address commented, “The topics and standard is excellent.  Research is an integral part of our curriculum here and I congratulate everyone on their work to date and look forward to its completion.”

Dr Willie Donnelly, Head of Research at WIT, and Andrew Brownlee, Director of RDI at IoTI, were the keynote speakers.  Maeve McCauley and Una Cronin outlined the role of LYIT's Library as a resource for research.
