LYIT Brickies do it in style
LYIT team build houses and hope in Zambia
A LYIT team from the Department of Nursing & Health Studies travelled to Zambia in June this year for the Habitat for Humanity project. Whilst there, the group of 11 helped to construct 3 houses over 2 weeks. An impressive achievement in temperatures of nearly 40 degrees. These houses provide shelter and dramatically increase living standards, through health and sanitation improvement, amongst some of the poorest communities in the world. This is the third time volunteers from the college have taken part.
Mary Dunnion, Lecturer, spoke movingly about the visit this year, “We’d like to thank everyone for all the help and support we received in fund raising and donations.
The clothes, footwear and toys were very gratefully received by the community in Zambia. This year we sorely missed our esteemed colleague Philip Corcoran, and a plaque in his memory was presented to the Zambian community.”
Habitat for Humanity is a charity, based on the premise that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. To donate or get involved visit www.habitatireland.ie.
