This year the college added exciting new courses in areas such as, Cloud Computing, Culinary Arts, Dental Nursing, Fire Safety Engineering, Animation and Sports Coaching. During 2012, LYIT completely refreshed its curriculum to reflect the latest academic and industry trends.
There are four academic schools at LYIT – Business, Science, Engineering, and Tourism in Killybegs – which provide a broad range of entry level degree programmes, matched by growing opportunities in postgraduate Masters and PhDs. There are over 75 courses to choose from. The college also has a number of programmes for those wishing to return to college or change career direction.
LYIT is located on 2 campuses in Letterkenny and Killybegs, both are dynamic and vibrant with excellent facilities, including a floodlit outdoor playing field, a refurbished cookery demonstration classroom, state-of-the art science labs and the only Wind Energy Training Tower in Ireland. Killybegs offers highly respected courses in tourism, hospitality and culinary arts, with an ambitious European and US exchange programme.
Registrar Billy Bennett explains, “We’re focused on continuing to offer relevant courses to meet a changing market with a particular emphasis on emerging areas like Cloud Computing.
