LYIT Campus to Campus Charity Cycle raises over 5K

Over 100 people cycle to raise €5,568.50 for 3 charities

Charity Cycle 2012_1 It's Tour de France season and Donegal witnessed its own ‘tour’, when over 100 LYIT staff, students and friends of LYIT took part in the annual sponsored 75 km charity cycle from the School of Tourism campus in Killybegs to the Letterkenny campus in late April 2012.

Whilst Meenaroy may not be quite L’Alpe d'Huez, this year it saw some impressive effort and determination from the enthusiastic cyclists who participated.  The funds raised will benefit the Irish Cancer Society (through Relay for Life), Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and the Society of St Vincent de Paul.  Despite tough economic times, Donegal people proved generous once again and €5,568.50 was raised for the charities.  Thank you.

Charity Cycle 2012_3 People of all ages took part and although many had only recently taken up cycling, they still managed to complete the course.  A big thank you to all who were involved in organising the event, including marshalling the route, acting as first-aid attendants, making the sandwiches and, most importantly, cheering on the riders.

One exhausted cyclist said: “We all had a brilliant day and the craic was great.  It shows how you can really make a difference in your community if everyone works together for a good cause – and have a lot of fun at the same time!”
