New Accountancy Degree at LYIT set high standards
Letterkenny IT has announced a new 3 Year Honours degree in Accounting
The Letterkenny IT has announced a new 3 Year Honours degree in Accounting which will offer major exemptions from the professional accounting bodies due to its high standard. “Despite the challenging economic times, demand for good graduates in accounting and finance remains strong” according to Ronan O’Loughlin, Director of Education and Training, Chartered Accountants Ireland, at a recent address to the Masters in Accounting students at LYIT. “The new 3-year Honours Degree in Accounting is a very significant development for LYIT” adds Billy Bennett, Head of School of Business, “Leaving Cert students currently facing difficult decisions in relation to third level course choice can now elect to pursue a career in accounting via a 3-year Honours degree programme at Level 8. This new 3-year Honours Degree (CAO: LY108) and the Masters Degree in Accounting are strongly focused at the professional accounting exams and achieve major exemptions from the professional accounting bodies - ACCA, Chartered Accountants of Ireland and CPA”.
Addressing the accountants of tomorrow at the launch of LYIT’s new 3-year Honours Degree in Accounting, Ronan O’Loughlin praised the valuable contribution made by the college to those pursuing accountancy qualifications: “Chartered Accountants Ireland recognises the contribution of the LYIT programmes to the North West region in attracting and developing the necessary skills for Accounting Degree and Masters graduates who go on to pursue professional accountancy qualifications. The Masters programme at LYIT is one of only 10 approved programmes aimed at providing candidates with full exemptions from our penultimate professional examinations. The staff and facilities at LYIT are a key element in ensuring your success”.
Mr O’Loughlin emphasised the valuable role that Chartered Accountants play in these testing economic times, adding that their contribution is vital to the success of both small and large businesses. Chartered Accountants occupy many positions across industry, not just in the finance section but in Management, HR and IT, while many CEO’s are qualified accountants.
