Record number of charity events at LYIT
LYIT students and staff raise €13,000 in record number of charity events.
LYIT students and staff have been busy beavering away organising many charity fund-raising activities. All in all, there have been over 25 activities in 9 months which have raised in total €12,800 for many charities both at home and abroad. There have been many inventive ideas such as pamper evenings, selling crafts and novelty sweatshirts.
LYIT has a further 4 major charity events to come, including staff and students limbering up to take part in the North West 10K, Strictly Come Dancing, a student trip to Malawi with Habitat for Humanity, and a Campus to Campus cycle.
Paul Hannigan, President, is impressed, “I am staggered at the number of charity events which are taking place on campus. Despite a tough climate, students are using their initiative and time to generate funds for many worthy causes. There has always been a strong sense of altruism here amongst staff and I would like to thank everyone who has dedicated their efforts in organising these activities.”
Some of the charities who have benefited so far are: The Garden of Eden project in Thailand, Habitat for Humanity (Malawi), Letterkenny General Hospital, Children’s Hospital Crumlin, Irish Cancer Society, Donegal Women’s Domestic Violence Service, Belarus Orphanage, Punchestown Kidney Research Fund, Haiti Building Appeal, Irish Heart Foundation, Aware and Living Links.
