Strictly Come Dancing in aid of the Donegal Women’s Domestic Violence Service

Strictly Come Dancing_3Glitter balls, sequins, immaculate makeup and sharp moves will be let loose on the dance floor at the Silver Tassie Hotel on Friday, 7 May.  The Letterkenny Institute of Technology will hold a Strictly Come Dancing Competition in aid of the Donegal Women’s Domestic Violence Service (DWDVS).

Nine couples will take to the floor to showcase their ballroom dancing skills from jive, to waltz, rumba to American smooth, until one is crowned champion.  Gary Gamble (also the compere) and his band will play after the competition ensuring the dancing carries on until the wee small hours.

Strictly Come Dancing_2Dr Lynn Ramsey, Head of Department of Law and Humanities at LYIT, who is one of the organisers of the event is very excited, “This is an extremely worthy cause.  We hope the event will help increase the profile for the DWDVS and support the organisation in continuing to provide its excellent service to those in need throughout Donegal.  All the couples who are taking part have spent many hours in preparation for the night learning their dances and it promises to be a great night’s entertainment.”

The DWDVS aims to raise awareness of domestic violence within the community.  The DWDVS is a voluntary organisation providing information, support and temporary refuge to victims of domestic violence and their families since 1991.  The service provides help to women and children who suffer, or have suffered from, physical, mental, psychological, sexual or economic abuse within an intimate relationship.  The DWDVS is the only Donegal-wide service of its kind in operation.

All are welcome to come along to what will be a very entertaining and toe-tapping event.  Admission is €20 and tickets can be purchased by contacting Bridin McAteer on 086 8791696 or email: bridinmcateer@hotmail.com.
