LYIT announces new Masters in Computing with SITA
LYIT has introduced a new MSc in Computing in Enterprise Applications Development, aimed at computing graduates, as part of the 2009/10 curriculum. The Masters was developed in partnership with the IT industry in the North West, and in particular with SITA, the specialists in air transportation communications and IT solutions. One of the unique aspects of this Masters is that it includes work placement, along with a paid allowance, for participants.
“The programme came about through working closely with the IT industry so it answers identified requirements in the exciting area of Enterprise Applications Development,” explains Thomas Dowling, Head of Department of Computing. “It will include 12 weeks paid placement with companies engaged in Enterprise Applications Development in order to apply what has been learned. It’s an opportunity for graduates to move to the next level. This is a sector which is expanding and graduates can expect to find attractive employment opportunities.”
Eamon Foy, Senior Development Manger, SITA, who will be providing 10 placements for LYIT Masters students, said, “This is an unique opportunity for graduates to combine advanced studies with work placement at SITA, where we design and implement mission critical enterprise applications that are used every day in the global air transport industry.”
“Students who are placed in our development office in Letterkenny will be exposed to challenges and deadlines faced in the commercial world. Specifically, at SITA they will see the influence enterprise development can have on the air transport industry as almost every airline and every airport in the world uses SITA products.”
According to Thomas Dowling, “This Masters is an attractive option for computing graduates to expand their skills at a high level and gain experience in a world class company. It reflects the commitment of employers to develop expertise in this dynamic and growing sector.”
