Graduates opt for Further Study

Over 60% of LYIT graduates opt for further study.

LYIT 2009 graduates have chosen to continue their studies, according to a survey conducted by LYIT to find out what last year’s students are doing now.  It found 60.3% are opting for further study, mostly at LYIT.  Over a quarter surveyed are working, double the number who are looking for employment, whilst a small percentage (2.5%) are taking a year out.

“These statistics reflect the current trend to gain further qualifications and waive the ‘right of passage’ travel year,” commented Catherine Lyster, Careers Officer, LYIT.  “It’s gratifying to see that over 25% are employed which shows that there are opportunities out there.”

Paul Hannigan, President, LYIT, referring to the results said, “Our graduates are well qualified and capable.  I believe the survey indicates the mix of programmes at LYIT are relevant to industry and that graduates recognise the scope in further study.  This can often be linked with industry needs - we currently have a vibrant Masters programme where students are analysing real industry problems.  LYIT will continue to work closely with companies, such as Pramerica, to ensure our curriculum meets relevant industry needs.”
