    Is this Programme for Me?
    This programme is an ATP (Accelerated Technician summer programme) in Childcare is open to applicants who have been in receipt of Social Welfare payments for the last six months or more and who already hold or are about to receive their FETAC level 5 award in DCHSC, Childcare with a least 3 distinctions in any of the following modules
    • D20153 Working in Childcare
    • D20159 Caring for Children
    • D20005 Child Development
    • D20007 Early Childhood Education
    The course is aimed at offering an alternative route into the level 7 programme for FETAC level 5 holders. There will be four semesters delivered over the academic year from September 2009 to May 2010. Each semester will be of 6 weeks duration followed by exams. At the end of the theoretical part of the course students will undertake two 4-week placements (mid-May to late July) in 2 different settings.
    On successful completion of the course students will be eligible to apply for year 3 of the level 7 B.Sc. in Early Childhood Care, Health and Education programme in September 2010.
    Minimum Academic Entry Requirements
    FETAC level 5 award in DCHSC, Childcare with a least 3 distinctions in any of the following modules

    • D20159 Caring for Children
    • D20005 Child Development
    • D20007 Early Childhood Education
    **Note: This course is not open to LCE or Mature applicants who do not hold the FETAC level 5 award in DCHSE

    • Discuss the current context of social policy childcare and protection in Ireland
    • Discuss the concepts of child health and well-being and the determination of health
    • Reflect upon issues underpinning inclusion, both social and educational
    • Identify sociological perspectives on health issues
    • Illustrate the link between cultural belief systems and health and health outcomes

    Career Opportunities
    There is a strong and growing demand for qualified child care professionals. Some positions include: private sector childcare facilities such as crèches, nurseries etc.; the health service in special needs facilities; primary schools as classroom assistants
