    Is this Programme for Me?
This programme has been designed in response to the current economic downturn. Its purpose is to allow applicants who are on social welfare and especially applicants who have recently been made redundant to return to full-time education in an environment which is sensitive to their needs and concerns. Other candidates may also apply for the course but will have to pay fees. For details on fees please contact LYIT.
    How do I Apply?
Mature applicants who are over 23 do not need to have the Leaving Cert to apply. If you are under 23 you must have a pass (OD3 or better) in 5 Leaving Certificate subjects, including passes in Mathematics and in either Irish or English (or an equivalent qualification).
Information on grants and Back to Education benefits can be obtained, along with an application form, from the Admissions Office at Letterkenny IT on 074 918 6122. To have their fees paid for them, applicants must normally be in receipt of Social Welfare for at least 6 months prior to starting the course or be entitled to statutory redundancy from their most recent employment.
The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 4th September.

    Career Opportunities
While there are limited direct career opportunities from this course, students who progress to a Computing Degree are eligible to apply for a range of computing careers. Current forecasts about the future of the computing industry in Ireland are excellent. In addition to the national demand for computing graduates there are several large computing companies in the Northwest such as Pramerica which is based in Letterkenny, Northbrook which has operations in Derry and Strabane and SITA which is owned by the air transport industry and has recently announced a major jobs expansion.
